Seniors Going the Blog Way

November 25th, 2006   •   3 comments

Yesterday afternoon, fellow Friends of Yesterday, Ivan Chew and Chun See did us all proud by showing seniors the basics of blogging at Queenstown Community Library.

The capacity crowd of about 100 seniors were rather engaged and sat on the edge of their seats, some copiously taking notes, while others asked questions. Many of them braved the heavy rain just to attend this session. I have not seen such a picture of earnestness in a long time.

Personally, I hope that they can contribute their stories, photographs and reflections on life at yesterday.sg, the blog which was set up by NHB and the Museum Roundtable. We would love to hear from them!

More reports here on Ivan Chew’s blog.

Thanks for showing up in spite of the rain and having an earlier event to attend, Walter. It was clear, at least to me, that many of the participants were curious about this “new media”. Perhaps the time is right for NHB could consider a publicity/ recruitment/ training drive targeting at these seniors, to be contributors for Yesterday.SG (nevermind if they still don’t want to blog — we can look at volunteers to help them get things down).

Thanks for the suggestion. It is something that I have been mulling about for some time too – how to engage the mature and tap onto the gems of wisdom that they have to offer. Even if they do read yesterday.sg and tell their friends, it would already be a bonus!

Thanks to you and NHB & NLB for this initiative. Hope they read the Explore flyer and follow-up.
